SOAPS AND SHAMPOOS COLLECTION
All this week (from Monday May 2 until Friday May 6) we are collecting soaps and shampoos (and other toiletries if you want to bring them in!) for a local center which provides homeless individuals with a place to take a hot shower and get clean clothing.

Please place donations in the box in the atrium.

Hope you all had a wonderful spring break! Ambrit families are invited to participate in one or more of the following “Spring Cleaning” community service events:

Ø Clean out your children’s closets and donate clothing to Kids2Kids

Ø Donate leftover travel soaps and/or shampoos to a local facility which provides showers for the homeless

Ø Help with a Villa Sciarra park clean up

Donations of clean, used children’s clothing may be left in the atrium between Wednesday April 27 and Monday May 2.

Donations of soaps and/or shampoos for a local shower facility for homeless may be left in the collection box in the atrium between Monday May 2 and Friday May 6.

Show up at Villa Sciarra THIS SATURDAY APRIL 30 between 10:30 and 11.30 in the morning and donate an hour to cleaning up the park area! Gloves and bags provided! (weather permitting)

ZANZIBAR COLLECTION WINNERS
Thanks for a quick response to our collection of school supplies and sporting goods for the orphanage in Zanzibar! All donations were gathered up Thursday morning and are already on their flight to the orphanage. There was such a display of generosity that the judges felt compelled to award prizes for a 3-way tie between 4M, 3B, and Nursery! CONGRATULATIONS!
They decided to award treats to the follow runners-up as well: Prep C and 3C.

In December, a small but dedicated group of Middle School Students began meeting at morning break times to make friendship bracelets which will be sold at the Mayfair, with proceeds going to charities supported by Ambrit. Many thanks to these young ladies for their time and skill!

WORLD FOOD DAY LUNCHES

Ambrit Middle School students were invited to make an awareness-raising gesture of solidarity on World Food Day by cutting out the fancy excesses of their lunches and instead bringing a very simple lunch based on staple foods. Nearly 100% of the student body participated, and nobody seemed to mind eating plain pasta or rice for one day of the school year. Attached are some photos of the most popular lunch that day...plain white rice!!!

On Thursday September 30, 3c made the first bi-weekly batch of 40 sandwiches which are donated to the Flaminio group of the Community of Sant'Egidio who distributes the sandwiches to the needy living on the streets.
The leftover hotdog buns from the Autumn barbecue will be used in the next batch of sandwiches which will be made on Thursday October 28th, just before fall break.
A big box of leftover hotdogs was brought to the Missionaries of Charity facility by St Peter's for them to use in their nightly distribution of hot sandwiches.

HEARTS FOR HAITI SPARE CHANGE CONTEST RESULTS
Thanks to everyone's overwhelming response to our call for spare coinage for the ongoing Haiti relief effort! Ambrit students brought in more than TWO THOUSAND EUROS in spare change (and paper money too!) which has been added to Ambrit's ongoing support of relief in Haiti.

...A CALL FOR COINS...
Ambrit continues to sustain relief efforts in Haiti, in particular for Pane Condiviso, this time with a school-wide competition to see which classes can collect the most spare change (put those loose coins that are laying around your houses and in your coat pockets to good use!) and make the best-looking collection box to house the coins!
Each class has a box to decorate and fill with loose coins, and prizes will be awarded for most change collected, as well as best-looking collection box!
Parents, please help your children locate interesting facts, figures, photos about Haiti and send in any loose coins you can spare to help our students help Haiti!
Contest runs until FRIDAY MARCH 12, after which time coins will be counted, boxes judged, winners announced, and prizes awarded!

HAITI RELIEF EFFORTS

On Monday January 18 Ambrit's All Choirs Concert raised over a thousand euros for Haiti. On Wednesday January 27 Ambrit buddy classes met to create their own "Hearts for Haiti" which are presently displayed all around the atrium. On Thursday and Friday February 11th and 12th there will be a Valentine's Day Bake Sale with proceeds going to Pane Condiviso, which Ambrit supports in Haiti. On Valentine's Day itself, Noi Salon will offer half-price haircuts and donate all proceeds to Pane Condiviso!

FOOD COLLECTION FOR SANT'EGIDIO
(packed up and delivered on Wednesday November 25)

A big big THANK YOU to all who contributed to our collection and helped us to SURPASS our goal of 489 food items!

You donated approximately 400 cans of tuna or canned meat, two boxes of chocolate bars, and an assortment of other goods (rice, pasta, tomatoes, beans, and legumes) which went immediately to the Sant'Egidio Community Welcome Center in Trastevere to be packed into parcels to be distributed this week! (See pictures below of Ambrit community members who have come to help pack the food parcels)

While working on a unit about Emergencies and Aid, the 4M class enthusiastically volunteered to prepare Ambrit's bi-weekly donation of sandwiches to the Sant'Egidio Community for distribution to the needy in Rome.

Francesco DePalma, responsabile for the Sant Egidio group who receives and distributes Ambrit's 40 sandwiches every other Thursday, speaks to middle school students and teachers about the needy who receive our sandwiches and blankets (we collected them last winter and will do so again after the winter break).

WELCOME CENTER in Trastevere

On Saturday November 14 some middle school students from Ambrit helped to make "pacchi non-cucina" at the Sant'Egidio Welcome Center in Trastevere. "Pacchi non-cucina" are distributed to needy who do not have a fixed address, and are composed of ready-to-eat products such as tuna, cookies, and beans.
