Armed with plastic gloves and trashbags (and facts about the environmental impact of those cigarette butts that are so casually thrown on the ground), a group of Ambrit middle school students went out to see just how many they could find within a couple of blocks' radius of the school. It was shocking to see how many were collected in such a small space and a short time!

Did you know that (in the US) November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month? In recognition of this, Ambrit students wore pins to promote awareness of both the physical and environmental effects of smoking and cigarettes. Pictured here are some of the students who worked on getting pins prepared for every middle school student and teacher to wear.

SORTING AND DELIVERING THE CANNED GOODS
An enthusiastic crowd of 6th and 7th grade students volunteered to sort and package the canned goods prior to their delivery to the distribution center.

The Ecology Club meets faithfully every Friday at morning break time to make the rounds of all the classrooms to collect paper for recycling. Here are some club members hard at work.

CANNED GOODS DRIVE Leading up to World Food Day, Ambrit set (and surpassed!) a goal of collecting one canned good per student...more than 1000 items were brought in and delivered to the distribution center in Trastevere that we have supported for several years.

Charitable Craft Making
Several days a week, students make friendship bracelets which will be sold at the Holiday Bazaar. All profits will go to Shillong House. Take a look at some of the bracelets that have been made by these talented young ladies!

Sandwich making begins again. Every other Thursday Ambrit provides 40 sandwiches to a "cena itinerante" distributed to the homeless in the north of Rome. Attached here are photos of some 7th grade students doing the preparations.

SOAPS AND SHAMPOOS COLLECTION
All this week (from Monday May 2 until Friday May 6) we are collecting soaps and shampoos (and other toiletries if you want to bring them in!) for a local center which provides homeless individuals with a place to take a hot shower and get clean clothing.

VILLA SCIARRA PARK CLEAN UP

Show up at Villa Sciarra THIS SATURDAY APRIL 30 between 10:30 and 11.30 in the morning and donate an hour to cleaning up the park area! Gloves and bags provided! (weather permitting)

ZANZIBAR COLLECTION WINNERS
Thanks for a quick response to our collection of school supplies and sporting goods for the orphanage in Zanzibar! All donations were gathered up Thursday morning and are already on their flight to the orphanage. There was such a display of generosity that the judges felt compelled to award prizes for a 3-way tie between 4M, 3B, and Nursery! CONGRATULATIONS!
They decided to award treats to the follow runners-up as well: Prep C and 3C.
